• welcome to Julian Porter photography workshops

Jules and his wife, Sue, are both proud qualified members of the Master Photographers Association (MPA) and the British Institute of Professional Photographers (BIPP) and currently handle 40 high-class weddings each year plus hundreds of portraits in their Southampton studio.

Those abbreviations provide you with reassurance. What they don't prepare you for is the sense of technical prowess and artistic brilliance than Jules and Sue bring to their work on weddings, portraits, Christenings, baby days, makeovers, location shoots – and now boudoir and saucy pinup shoots.

Today, Jules and Sue are passing on their skills – in workshops that teach you how to shoot like a pro or build a photography business. Or if you're already there, helping you diversify into exciting and lucrative new markets. It's an unmissable opportunity from two of the most-respected photography professionals in the country.

Rich Bailey’s photos

We have just received this amazing testimonial from Rich,

Jules, Sue

I just wanted to write to you to thank you again for the outstanding day’s boudoir training that I attended recently. The day was fantastic, and my photography has moved to a different level as a result of it.

The studio was amazing, and the models wonderful – and very different in their approaches, creating different challenges to photograph which you patiently coached me through. You had clearly thought about how to challenge me creatively, tailoring the day for me rather than putting me through a standard course. You blended the business side, with the fun of the shoot, with the technical post processing side incredibly well, creating a seamless experience – I genuinely did not know where the time went!

On top of that, you and Sue were great fun to be around. You quickly helped me  to relax into the day (helped by Sue’s wonderful coffee!), were patient, and generous with your knowledge. I left the day with a series of amazing images, knowledge and confidence to do this on my own, copies of all your marketing material and key actions you use for a shoot, and  (arguably most importantly) two new friends!

I would not hesitate to recommend this course to other photographers.

One 2 One photography business workshop with Ian in Southampton

On Tuesday we ran a one 2 one business workshop for Ian Hamilton, Ian had just decided to take his photography business full time and we talked him through the whole marketing for photographers course, Ian is a nice friendly chap and we are both confident that his business will grow over the next few months and years and are pleased to see that he already has plans afoot.

I just received a lovely email from Ian,

Hi Jules & Sue,
Just a quick note to say thanks for a great day – really enjoyable, informative & great company. Appreciate your openness & sharing your info. I now have a lot of things to think/work through!!
Cheers, Ian.

Photo training in southampton with Kathryn and Lizzie at Marwell southampton

On Saturday 13th we ran a photography workshop here in our southampton studio for Kathryn and Lizzie and we had a real fun day.  Part of what we do is teaching our clients how to overcome obstacles such as shooting through glass or thick wire cages as well as shooting very fast subjects like birds of prey or cars,

Kathryn and Lizzie both had Lumiz Fz50 cameras and both are interested in a possible DSLR upgrade although tbh after seeing what the girls achieved in such a short time I will be surprised if they upgrade, they both took some amazing photos at Marwell and I am particularly fond of the first one which is a Kangaroo with a joey in her pouch, O wait it might be a wallabe:-)

Our photographic courses are all run from our southampton training school and we then go out and about all over hampshire and dorset depending on what you are interested in if you are  looking to do one of our “getting to know your camera” workshops like Kathryn and Lizzie,  We also go to Exbury gardens and Beaulieu Motor Museum depending on your passion and could also go anywhere else that you fancy so let us know,  We also go to the hawk conservancy in Andover although this course does require a little more equipment but it is so much fun, We also do courses that can be changed to suit your needs such as a recent one we ran to photograph the moon or maybe a sunset photography course, either way let us know and we will see what we can do.

Sue and I run several photography workshops in School of photography southampton, and around Hampshire  often teaching people who have never used a DSLR camera and from Now on we have a dedicated set of equipment for you to try out and use, we have a full Nikon camera and lens setup as well as lenses if you have a Nikon or a Canon, this is a great way to see the benefits of a DSLR before committing yourself.

Here are a few from Kathryn and Lizzie

Phil and the tigers Photo workshop in southampton

On sunday 7th we ran a training workshop with one of our Grooms from 2008 Phil and after the normal morning session we headed off to Marwell on what was a freezing cold day but a very sunny day.  After we did our walk around and Phil took some great photos we went to see the tigers,  we waited and waited but nothing so left to see the mearcats, on our way back Phil spotted the Tiger and grabbed a great position, he captured these 2 shooting through thick glass using the techniques  that we had taught him earlier and was delighted, as were we.

Phil had a new Canon 500D which is a great camera and I am pleased to say that he went away with some fantastic images.

Just to remind anybody out there looking to do one of our “getting to know your camera” workshops like Phil,  We also go to Exbury gardens and Beaulieu Motor Museum depending on your passion and could also go anywhere else that you fancy so let us know,  We also go to the hawk conservancy in Andover although this course does require a little more equipment.

Talking of equipment,  Sue and I run several photography workshops in southampton and around Hampshire  often teaching people who have never used a DSLR camera and from Now on we have a dedicated set of equipment for you to try out and use, we have a full Nikon camera and lens setup as well as lenses if you have a Nikon or a Canon, this is a great way to see the benefits of a DSLR before committing yourself.

Here are a couple of Phils photos.
